چکیده

Consider a 2-stage single-server tandem queue with a MAP to the first stage and the exponential service times. Using the DREB scheme, we formulate the joint queue length process into a single-dimensional level-dependent quasi-birth-death (LDQBD) process with expanding blocks. This allows us to show that the departure process from stage 1 is a MAP with infinite phases or IMAP and that the departure process of any IMAP/M/1 is still an IMAP.

Solving the tandem AGV network design problem using tabu search: Cases of maximum workload and workload balance with fixed and non-fixed number of loops

A tandem AGV configuration connects all cells of a manufacturing area by means of non-overlapping, sin-gle-vehicle closed loops. Each loop has at least one additional P/D station, provided as an interface between adjacent loops. This study describes the development of three tabu search algorithms for the design of tandem AGV systems. The first algorithm was developed based on the basic definiti...

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR ON THE DEPARTURE PROCESSES OF M/M/l/N AND GI/G/l/N QUEUES

The purpose of this note is to point out the connection between the invariance property of M IM 11 and GIl G I1 queues (which has been reported in several papers) and the interchangeability and reversibility properties of tandem queues. This enables us to gain new insights for both problems and obtain stronger invariance results for MIM/l, GIIG/I, as well as loss systems MIM/IIN, GIIG/IIN and t...

Forecasting Capital Investment for Fixed-Telephony Network Switching Equipment in Tandem with NGN Migration Using Cobb-Douglas Model

This paper tries to estimate the capital investment required for the fixed-telephony network switching equipment as demanded by the fourth national development plan. As a first step, the Cobb-Douglas model is used as a successful demand forecasting model to estimate the demand over the target years. Then, an architectural plan is developed for the fixed-telephony switching network that takes in...

A Service Abstraction with Applications to Network

In this paper, we define a general service abstraction for a network element. The service abstraction is defined in terms of a “service mapping,” which is a montotone operator that maps an arrival process to a lower bound on the corresponding departure process. We consider service mappings which are shift invariant, which includes the previously studied service curve model defined in terms of c...
